Last Bear Before christmas and the World didn't end .....

Hi,
I have just listed my final bear for 2012 on Bear Pile.....
She was just at the Teddies Worldwide Christmas Treasures Show and then I kept her here on display but really she needs to find a new home :) So I have listed her on Bear Pile here

I also found out the other day that I have been accepted into the Teddies Worldwide TeddyBear Extravaganza 2013 on the 22nd to the 24th of March.... so I know what I will be doing after Christmas :)  I have already decided on my most of my bears and now all I have to do is get them out of my head and into 3D fur :)

I'm glad it is now the 22nd of Dec and the World didn't end - now I know that all the cleaning and gift making I have done this last 2 weeks has been worthwhile !!
I hope everyones  Christmas preparations are all going well and I would like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and Best Wishes for the coming New Year.

Back soon..........

Visitors.....

I have been a little distracted from the bear making of late, I have been trying to re arrange furniture and generally "Summer clean " (I missed Spring entirely) the house before Christmas as well as trying to get a couple of presents finished.

While I was looking out the back door (hoping house cleaning fairy  help was about to drop from the sky ;) I noticed these gorgeous butterflies had come to visit our Bougainvillea that climbing all over our water tank.
There were two of them flying around , there was also a third larger butterfly that wasn't as brightly coloured as this one and I didn't take her photo, which was a shame as I later found out she was the female of the species.

The two males seemed more interested in following each other than her though.

I thought they looked familiar so after a bit of research (thank you Google) I found out they are Richmond Birdwing Butterflies which are sadly quite rare and endangered.
The little caterpillars can only eat two types of vines which are also quite rare and the females are being fooled by a pest species of plant (Dutchmans Pipe) into thinking they have found the right plant to lay eggs on, and then the offspring have nothing to eat when they hatch :(
Apparently, the males only travel up to three kilometers from where they hatch so there must be some of the right plant reasonably close by. Meanwhile the poor girls can travel an area of up to 30ish kms to find a mate and a plant.

Typical, not only are the females less pretty, they have to do more work  *grin*

I am quite keen to source some of these special plants from a Nursery now so if these lovely butterflies drop by again we might be able to encourage them to stay.
Sadly, there was no sign of the housework fairy.......

After The Show

I had a lovely time at the Teddies Worldwide Christmas Treasures Show.

Some bears found new homes and I had a great time looking at all the gorgeous creations.
I find it mind boggling, that 80+ people who are all given the same theme, can have so many different ideas :)

I have listed a couple of bears  that did not find homes at the show, on Bear Pile -(note my shiny new link on the side bar :) if anybody would like a quick look.

Off to get some housework done now so I can get on to some more sewing later ........

It's Me Again :) ..........

Hi everyone :0)

Sorry, I was away a little longer than I realised.... the time has gone so quickly.
I have been sewing my bears for the Teddies Worldwide Christmas Show and the preview bears from all the participating artists are now available for viewing here
Please vote for your favourite in each section if you can decide between them all :0)

For the show, we had to design a bear to suit the theme of a Christmas song or carol. My entry is called Mistletoe

Mistletoe is made in a gorgeous long, dense polar mohair. I trimmed his face back to the backing and then felted his cheeks etc and then re rooted the same type of mohair back into the felted face and trimmed it to follow the felted shape. Putting the mohair back into the felting really densely makes his cheeks feel like long velvet :0)
He is actually an open mouth design though it is really hard to tell from this photo.
His mistletoe is handmade for Polymer clay over wire and I had a lovely afternoon making it !
I have just about finished all 10 bears for this show and I am just trying to get all the accessories finished to make each bear follow a carol or song.

I can't wait to see all the bears !!

I also got a couple of bears ready for the Bears That Care on line Show. This show raises money for Ovarian Cancer Research and the sale consists of donated bears whose sale money goes to OvCare. You can check out their website by clicking here  As well as the donated bear, each artist will have a bear or two for sale - so it is another chance to see more lovely bears :0)

Also, thank you to everyone that voted for Earl Grey in the URSA Awards. He received a third place :0)

See you next (not such a long) time .......

Rosey, Birthday Goodies and A Shameless Plug...

Hi,

Well, I didn't quite get back next day but here I am now.... better late than never ?

I have been having a week full of bear sewing and a bit of knitting :0)
I have bear bits coming out of my ears at the moment.

As a break from sewing, today I listed Rosey on Bear Pile. Rosey is 15 and a half inches of hand dyed mohair and needle felting and she is available now :)

As promised, I took some photos of my lovely birthday presents. The boar is Steiff and feels like he is stuffed with woodwool.

This is Edward Trunk - he is one of the characters from the Rupert Bear series. He is also from Steiff but is one of their modern series from 2007. This guy has the best elephant face I have seen !

Finally here is my lovely necklace...

While I had the camera out, I took a photo of some of my bear bits - I have been pulling the fur out of seams and fray stopping the stuffing openings so they don't stretch or fray.

Lastly.... it's time for the shameless plug - Please don't forget that the voting for the URSA Awards finishes on the 7th of Sept. If you haven't voted yet, please click on the link in the sidebar and choose your favourite...

See you next time ....
